PRIVATE RESIDENCE (RK)

St. Louis, Missouri

The homeowner purchased the home in 2019 and found the original Hawthorne concrete tile roofing system was at lifecycle end.  The new homeowner was interested in looking at options for new concrete tile and after reviewing some multi-colored natural slate assemblies, decided on a Multi-colored Vermont and New York Red slate roof.

Work Included

  • Complete removal of the concrete tile and replacement with a combination of Multi-colored Vermont and New York Red slate.
  • Fabrication and installation of new 16 oz. copper valley metal, wall and chimney flashings, rake trim and drip edge.
  • Fabrication and installation of new K-style copper gutters, copper gutter apron, and downspouts.

THE CHALLENGE

One of the challenges was introducing the idea of natural slate versus concrete tiles.

The homeowner had several proposals from other contractors for installation of new synthetic slate and new stone-coated metal roofing systems. Both left the homeowner feeling a bit underwhelmed.

THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION

The solution provided by Renaissance made the most sense and retained the historic integrity of the home while adding to the aesthetics of the home.

Custom sheet metal work around the turret was a challenge for other contractors. For Renaissance Historic Exteriors, this is just what we do.

THE RESULTS

The homeowner could not be happier with the finished, natural slate roofing system, and the home will be protected for the next 100 years with minimal maintenance.
