VILLA ST. BENEDICT
LISLE, ILVilla St. Benedict was built in 1912 as a convent by the Benedictine Sisters of the Sacred Heart. In 1929, an addition to the convent increased the space and allowed the Sisters to run Sacred Heart Academy, a Catholic school for girls, until it closed in 1968.
In 1987 the original academy building was opened as Queen of Peace Center as a home to 32 senior citizens. Today, the building has 51 apartment homes and 14 memory support residences and is known as Benedale Center for Assisted Living and Memory Care.

THE CHALLENGE
Initial evaluation and recommendations of the roofing system was completed in 2012. In 2015 & 2016 work was done to repair damage and mitigate leaks until the restoration could begin in summer of 2016 when Phase I of the restoration began. Phase II of the restoration was completed in December 2017.
Severe temperature fluctuations throughout the year and a half duration of project, starting with 90°+ temperatures over summer months and -10° temperatures throughout the winter months. The 50’ multi-story structure elevated on a hill created multiple wind related challenges, including controlling and containing debris, the installation of underlayment and flat roofing membranes, and particularly the execution of soldering various copper components.
THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION
THE RESULTS
The restoration enables the residents to enjoy a beautiful and properly restored structure for decades to come.
Renaissance was nominated for, and awarded, the 2020 NRCA Roofing Alliance Award for this project by Kathy DiCristina, Administrator & CEO of St. Benedict.
