Private Residence (CW)

St. Louis, MO

When the St. Louis tornado damaged hundreds of properties in 2025, this private residence was one of them. The homeowner originally contacted Renaissance for emergency service to protect their home while they dealt with their insurance. Ultimately Renaissance was chosen to replace the slate roof on their home and install the new standing seam copper roof on their carriage house.

Work Included

  • Complete replacement of the home's slate roof system
  • Replacement of custom fabricated copper gutters and downspouts
  • Carpentry repairs on home
  • Masonry repairs on home
  • Fabrication and installation of custom standing seam copper roof on carriage house

THE CHALLENGE

After being approached by several out-of-town roofing contractors, the owner was left feeling uneasy about the quality and completeness of their proposals. Some offered piecemeal or temporary solutions that failed to account for the home’s historic designation and the level of craftsmanship required.

As a property listed on the National Register of Historic Places and located on a private street, the stakes were higher, demanding both accuracy and sensitivity to original materials. Renaissance was brought in to provide a comprehensive evaluation and a more thoughtful, complete restoration plan.

THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION

Renaissance performed a detailed inspection, carefully documenting all storm-related damage while taking into account the home’s historic significance. The team developed a full restoration plan that preserved the architectural integrity of the property while meeting modern performance standards. Renaissance worked closely with the insurance carrier, providing thorough documentation to support a complete scope of work.

The project included replacing the slate roof with historically appropriate materials, executing precise masonry and carpentry repairs, and fabricating a custom standing seam copper roof for the carriage house. New gutters and downspouts were also installed to ensure proper drainage while maintaining the home’s historic aesthetic.

THE RESULTS

The home was fully restored to its historic character, with every detail carefully executed to honor its original design. Beyond aesthetics, the property is now better protected against future weather events. The homeowner was able to move forward with confidence, knowing their historically significant residence received the level of care and craftsmanship it required.
