PRIVATE RESIDENCE

Clayton, Missouri

In 2020, Renaissance Historic Exteriors completed a premium clay tile roof replacement on a historic residence in St. Louis, Missouri. This high-profile project was prompted by storm damage and became the subject of an extended insurance claim with State Farm, which initially declined to fund a like-kind replacement of the original Ludowici clay tiles due to cost.

Work Included

  • Complete removal of the original tile and replacement with a close substitute Cobert Clay Tiles - Lusa Interlocking tiles in Magma (Dark Specked Red)
  • Fabrication and installation of new 20 oz. copper valley metal, wall and chimney flashings, rake trim and drip edge.
  • Fabrication and installation of new 6" Euro-style copper cutters to match the home's refined architectural detailing.

THE CHALLENGE

This was an insurance claim as a result of storm damage and the insurance company refused to fund replacement with the same tile the same tile.

After much negotiation and a great deal of searching for a similar product Renaissance was approved to install the Cobert Clay Tiles, staying within the constraints of the insurance settlement.

THE RENAISSANCE SOLUTION

Our experienced team successfully navigated the complex claim by providing expert documentation, historical context, and support from cultural resource specialists. We proposed and secured approval for an ideal substitute: Cobert Clay Tiles – Lusa Interlocking tiles in Magma (Dark Speckled Red)

This solution preserved the architectural integrity of the home while staying within the constraints of the insurance settlement. It also represents the only known installation of Cobert Lusa tiles in the St. Louis metro area, making this project truly one-of-a-kind.
